Tracy Womack is the owner of TraSea's Glassworks and an artist with twenty-eitght years of experience in working with glass. The type of work that Tracy does is called flamework or lampwork because the glass is heated in a torch flame. Although she has made many forms over the years, she specializes in marine life.
Each piece is hand formed from a solid rod of glass which is heated in the flame until molten and shaped into the desired form. The unique colors are achieved using glass frits (ground up glass) and powders. No two pieces are identical. The variances in size and coloration are to be expected in original artwork and only add to the enchantment of Tracy's pieces.
Tracy spent her childhood growing up in Miami where she fell in love with the ocean. In her early teens her family moved to a farm in Arkansas but Tracy never forgot the beach. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Arkansas and went on the learn the art of flameworking in Eureka Springs, AR. Tracy resided in Germany for four years where she refined her style by participating in weekly markets. Currently residing in St. Augustine, FL with her partner, two dogs, two cats and a few fish Tracy works from her home studio.
"After all these years I still love working with glass. It is such an alive medium: the way it flows in the fire and dances with light once it cools." - Tracy Womack
